What we won't pretend
Attendance systems are sold with a lot of hand-waving. Here is where the limits actually are — before you buy, not after.
Shared-tablet fingerprint doesn’t exist
Android and iOS only ever recognise a device’s own owner — a tablet holds ~5 prints, not 200 employees’. Anyone selling it is selling a prompt that records the wrong person. We do face on the terminal, real fingerprint on personal phones.
Face matching is very good, not magic
Identical twins are hard. When two candidates score too close, ShiftLog asks for a retry rather than guessing — three seconds beats clocking in the wrong person. And the terminal needs decent light; the install guide says so on page one.
Faces are regulated data
We store a mathematical template, never a photo — no image of a face is kept at all. Consent is captured on screen before the first capture, and templates are deleted within 30 days of someone leaving. What we collect and why is public.
